Good, Sunak cancelling the meeting because the Greek PM was going to raise the issue was idiotic.

The item does not refute the idea that Elgin had "stolen" the sculptures. My understanding is that Greece was under Turkish rule at the time and that the Turkish regime was systematically destroying much of historic local artwork. Had the sculptures not been taken to Britain they would no longer exist.

I would accept that their place is Athens - but also consider that the nature of their preservation deserves some kind of open recognition by Greece.
