With Zarah Sultana who has resigned from the Labour Party
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0wvkg492ro
-
The raisin Sultana left the Labour party is that she doesn't like its currant direction.
-
even if she had stayed, I think Starmer might have been thinking about pruning her from the party
-
Enough pun-ishment for one day, thank you. Bunch of would-be jokers.
-
Interesting bit of analysis on the possible new party, with big impact on Green and 18 - 24 vote.

Falling apart before they ever existed?

Looks as though I'll be voting Green next time after all, unless they get their act together.
-
So it's all sweetness and light? I fear this now makes the whole thing look even worse in a way. One day calling in the lawyers, thd next saying you don't want to makes you look a mess. And the boys' club rhetoric will be hard to get passed

Dear Forum,
See!! It is a play on words, raisin=reason and currant=current, see, SEE!! just thought I would help out, now old Sane, see that's a fail, a prune is a plum, doesn't work! see! as we say in Glasgow, he is on to plums.
Anyway back on topic, this is just what old blighty needs another fuckin party, and what will they be, lefties, left of centre, far left or, OR, dare I say it Commies, oh no! or another out dated word socialist, what is a socialist? someone who likes socialising!
What we really need is the current, ( not currant ) political parties to start talking to each other and stop trying to gain political fuckin points off each other, the ordinary man/woman on the street ( me ) is sick of the bullshit, stop trying to divide the Nation and actually bring us all together, yea I know, stop being a 🎵 daydreamer
I'm walking in the rain
Chasing after rainbows I may never find again🎵
David Cassidy for Prime Minister❤️
Gonnagle.
PS: I like Mr Corbyn, allotment holder, a very British institution. :P

Whatever Starmer's faults are, I don't think you can accuse him of trying to divide the nation.
NEWSFLASH: The nation is already divided. The division has always been there, of course, but intensified by 14 years of austerity and mismanagement and corruption. Then supercharged by the very tool we are using currently, so that any twat with enough money can rig the game in favour of whoever they want.
The current (or currant) situation does not lend itself to easy solutions, and your trite call to "bring us all together" shows just how much you have not grasped what is happening in this nation. I don't see how I can be brought together with Reform voters who think it is perfectly ok to call for the deliberate sinking of boats in the channel. I think you may be missing quite how much hate is being generated around that and other issues.
If you want me to spell it out, come the next election Reform will win, spurring a descent into a maelstrom where any acceptance of norms in political and judicial life, encouraged by aforementioned twats, will be abandoned.
I'm here all week to bring you all the rays of sunshine you need.

I agree with most of that. I'd add that the idea that this is somehow the fault of politicians, and the voter is a lovely person which is just a bit stupid and gets manipulated by the politicians, is all a bit sad. We get the politicians we deserve.

Please no >:( But there is a danger of this happening, why? because the politicians are not listening, to much far left this far right that and its bollocks, I have always been a Corbyn supporter but I am also 100% behind the Flag wavers, the peaceful protest flag wavers, they exist, I know because I am one of them.

Trite, trite, I would be offended if I didn't love you so much :P I hear the hatred, I see the hatred and the flames of this hatred are being fanned by the Farages of this world and politicians of all flavours are not helping when they brand me as a racist and fascist, I don't even know what a fascist is, Mussolini was one but I am not Italian.
As for Mr Starmer, I think he would make a very good lawyer, oh and let me address Mr Sane, politicians are servants, servants of the people.

First of all they are people, they are not a different species. But once again you are blaming them for the people. You have created a fantasy world in your head where people participate in a democracy, choose their politicians, and then have absolutely no responsibility for that. The politicians just lead them along as if they are now empty vessels.
Your whole post just blames the politicians for the hate, but that hatred is there, easy to use, but it exists without the politicians. Farage is a grifter and is using it but he didn't create it.

Dear Sane,
My fantasy! or your fantasy, maybe this is what we should do, me and you, what is a politician? from your various posts I get the impression that you think it is just a job, I totally disagree, so my fantasy or your fantasy?

Thinking that it is essentially just a job is not the equivalent of blaming the politicians we elect for all the bad stuff that we do, which has been the crux of your posts.
The idea that politicians are should just be servants surely removes anyone who might be able to bring people together? I don't want to make being a politician a job that no sane person would take but it seems to me your approach demands a bit of madness from them. To not care about their family, and having their own life but to be on perpetual call for the public, no matter how that public behaves. And in making it that much of a bad job, you encourage those who think about how they can take advantage of it.
-
Dear Gonners
Trite, trite, I would be offended if I didn't love you so much :P
When I first posted that, I thought, Is that too critical?
Perhaps glib is better? :P
(and apropos of nothing, what a strange word "glib" is when you repeat it often enough!)

Dear Sane,
Eh! and What! First its my fantasy and then its my crux, I asked you your opinion as I got the impression but you have nailed me with fantasy and crux, no where in any of my posts have I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the politicians.
but it seems to me your approach demands a bit of madness from them.
🎵Madness, madness they call it madness🎵
I often kid my boss that she doesn't get paid enough, she is in charge of over 150 crazy Nurses ( and me, poor woman must have done something pretty bad in a previous life :o ) but I use the word crazy in the most beautiful way you can imagine, who would actually want to be a Nurse/Doctor/Police Officer/Politician, not jobs, vocations, not madness but something like madness a beautiful madness, they live to serve, that is if you take that vocation seriously.
But then maybe it is my fantasy, I think being a politician is a position of power and with power comes great responsibility, listen and act on the will of the people, the people you serve, is that happening or am I just seeing point scoring.
Gonnagle.

I would agree your boss deserves to get paid more. And you know one of the arguments used by those who don't want to do so? That it's more a vocation than a job, and that it's not about the money. Some people who do those roles you list treat them as a vocational , many don't. Are the ones who din't bad people? Are they bad at their jobs?
As for policies, people din't see them as entitled to a family life, Prof D was arguing against even looking at any means of making it easier for parents. I want our democracy to be welcoming to peopke, letting them get involved, and tgat the job should have all the protections that unions have fought for generally. It should not be easier for the rich to do it.
As to listen and act on the will of the people, which will? The one that wanted to burn asylum hotels with people in them? The one that as Aruntraveller wanted to sink the boats?

I didn't say or imply that you did want to do those things. So your question is both specious and a misrepresentation.
I asked which will of the people you want politicians to follow and gave a couple of examples.
In what way does you think I, and Aruntraveller, are being led by the nose by Farage?

Dear Sane,
Specious! You forgot my third question.
Which will of the people? all of the people!
In what way does you think I, and Aruntraveller, are being led by the nose by Farage?
Because just like the media you are highlighting the darker side of the protest.
Dear Trent,
Is Ms Abbott not the voice of, lets call them the non flag wavers.

How is highlighting the darker side of the protests being led by the nose by Farage? You are the one seeing it as a grand day day out. More cheeses, Nigel?
Did you just pluck Diane Abbott's name because it allowed the Abbott and.. line?
-
Because just like the media you are highlighting the darker side of the protest.
Gonnagle.
The only side I see is the dark side: it's just a replay of the mindless xenophobia we saw during the Brexit nonsense.
The attempts to thwart the removal of these flags in certain areas, since they aren't everywhere, such as the reports from Stenhousemuir the other day, suggests to me that mindless xenophobia is exactly what this is - it is playing into the hands of quarter-wits like 'Trump-a-like' Farage.

Dear Sane,
A grand day out, it is more than that or do we not pay attention to your other thread with all its negative comments about streets lined with flags and painting Zebra crossings!
Highlighting the negative about these protests plays into the hands of the Farages and the politicians who are just sitting on their hands thinking its a storm in a teacup, it is not, these are real people with real grievances, is old Trent right! Mr prophet of doom, Nigel will be the next Prime Minister, that is a nightmare a real nightmare.
And now we have Mr Corbyn in the mix, will he listen to the flag wavers, aye right!
And yes you got me, abbott and costello, sue me, but she is the voice, the foaming at the mouth voice, all flag wavers are racist and fascists!
Gonnagle.

Hmph! Not all flag wavers are racists but then why would such a person then join a protest, or whatever it was, lead by a bunch of racists like Tommeh Ten Names? If such a person doesn't like being called a racist, don't associate with racists.

What would 'listening' mean to you? Labour's policy on immigration has moved substantially.
Dear Sane, Good Morning,
Me, personally, your question has the word "you" in it but the thing is I am not alone in my anger, my outrage, my how dare you!
The asylum seekers have achieved what they set out to do, they have reached our shores they are safe, yes they must have endured extreme hardship to achieve this but they are now safe, they now have a roof over their heads, food, clothes, all the basics, if I was an asylum seeker I would be eternally grateful.
Now my outrage, I don't want a thank you but we have rules very old rules, I live by them so do you, if the asylum seeker wants any extras, money in their pockets, medical aid you need to learn the first rule, English, you now have the basics FFS meet us halfway and learn to communicate.
Forget the old country, you are in a new country and we have rules, our rules that we live by, learn them and no I don't want to learn your rules we have our own rules learn them.
Every single day I am at work I see this, in fact it is written in to the Nurses handover, is there a communication barrier, and every single day there is, it breaks my heart to watch a Doctor or Nurse trying to use google translator to communicate to the Mum and Dad whilst the Clerkess tries to arrange for a translator to arrive at the unit and those people cost big money, but the money is a secondary consideration, the child the baby is the first the only consideration.
So you asked, I have explained, can you put yourself in the Nurses or Doctors situation, I can't!
Who should the politicians listen to, we could start with Doctors and Nurses, ordinary folk who would never have given the flag wavers the time of day but are now 100% behind them.
Gonnagle.

Trouble is it is a bit suspicious that they are only now, after 14 years of Tory rule , demonstrating anger.
So to whoever is angry I would ask "From whence did your anger come from?"

Dear Vlad,
You are asking me! Well maybe some people liked Tory rule, not me I think the Tory party should be resigned to the history books, generations to come can look back and see what not to do, but that is only my personal opinion.
"From whence did your anger come from?"
Whence :o Verily I say unto you, well it could just be that, 14 years of mismanagement by the Tory party, they made a total balls up, and someone correct me if I am wrong but one of the reasons the Tories lost, they did not listen, now the Tories can be forgiven because they are stuck in Tory land, a magical little land that only Tories understand, but this present Government is on course to do the exact same thing, and this time it could have dire, nightmarish consequences.
Liberal Democrats anyone, or am I just hanging on with blood soaked fingernails :(
