Title: Court rules asylum seekers must be moved from hotel
Post by: Nearly Sane on August 19, 2025, 05:11:03 PM
This is surely going to be problematic, and not going to be great news for the Tories, despite the council leader being of that party sinve it can be thrown back at Badenoch constantly by Reform that this is merely a specific example of what they did while in power.

Reform has an advantage here in appealing to those who want harder action against asylum seekers over the Tories in that it looks as if pretty well all of the councils that thet run will file similar cases, whereas the Tories will maybe be less than 50%.

Govt appealing to be an interested party.

"A senior Home Office source said it was a matter of "democracy" and that the judiciary should not be able to tell the government where it can and can't place asylum seekers."

That bit seems very reminiscent of the last govtsl's attitude to the judiciary

Is that right? Isn't it Town Council's and District councils that decide. County councils have no part except indirect influence.

Overturned on appeal. I think Reforn would probably be happy about that as it makes it easier for then to attack both govt and Tories.

The attempts by the Tories to try and distance themselves from their responsibility for the use of hotels is sad, unsurprising and indicative of a complete lack of integrity
