Title: We'll stop Farage turning UK into Trump's America, says Davey

Apparently he mentioned Farage 31 times in the speech. Farage will be delighted. This seems to go down the route of how the Dems treated Trump. Maybe not the bestest strategy in the entire history of the world.

And yet, Nige was on a roll, almost completely unchallenged leading to the Joyous announcement 2 or 3 days ago that Nigel Farage was on course to be our next Prime Minister on Global Radio stations.

3 3/4 years out from election Where's the precedence for that claim?

So a few bonfires had , at last to be pissed on.
If anything it hasn't gone far enough and people here seem ignorant of the American experience that Farage draws so heavily on.

it just gives credence to the claim. Talking about Farage is good for Farage. This is same tactic the Dems used with Trump, look how well that has worked out.

No, I blame them both. If you fight a stupid campaign badly you have some responsibility for losing. That you choose to do if against someone as dangerous as Trump makes it even more stupid.

To me, there seemed to be an attitude of "Our arguments speak for themselves" leading to a lack of urgency in the Democrats coupled with Kamal Harris actually not really having the right qualities unlike Hillary. The rest is down to conditioning and Trump being an inevitable consequence it seems of American consumerism.

What is similar to the UK is Trump 1.0 was experienced by the political illiterate as a win and success and something rarely afforded to them and seeking Farage would be another similar 'high' or 'fix'.to Brexit.

The Dems, of course, had also lied to the electorate about Biden. Swapping him out late was evidence both of chicanery and incompetence. Harris was dreadful.

Unfortunately for the Lib Dems, the mass media appears to be infatuated with the Farage twat and his ilk, and won't stop slapping them on the screens and pages - their message is getting out, and to not mention them is to leave the lies and disinformation unchallenged, because sure as hell the media aren't holding them to account.

But mentioning him 31 times in the speech is just idiocy. You can deal with a lot of what Reform represent by putting forward your own policies clearly. Again this idea that you will deal with Farage by talking about him as much as this failed for Trump. Farage will have loved both Lib Dems and Labour conferences.

Reform don't have policies, they have soundbites - that's Farage's MO (and Trump's, for that matter). Farage on Brexit was not 'this is what we'd do', it was always 'look how terrible this is'. You can't highlight the difference with Farage's policies, because he doesn't have them, you can't focus on Reform because it's just Farage with a flag - who gives a toss about Richard Tice, for instance?

Reform is a cult of personality, and unless you address that personality you aren't dealing with the problem - Farage is the problem. If unemployment was the problem no-one would care that unemployment was mentioned thirty times. If Farage wasn't getting the coverage i could see the argument that mentioning him a lot was giving him the oxygen he needs, but he's already mainlining media attention, talking about him isn't going to bring him to anyone's attention that wasn't already more than aware of him.

This is just repeating the failure of tge Dems with Trump. Mentioning g him 31 times in the speech just makes it all about him, and not about the Lib Dems. Their conference became a tribute to him and his influence. The unemployment comparison faiks because talking about policy is not like talking about a personality. The main issue for the Lib Dems shouldn't be Farage, and when they make it so, they only add to the cult.
