"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Bless. I remember something controversial about him but not the details, think it was to do with an environmental issue about which he was passionate but his theories weren't quite right. Never mind about that, he was brilliant and a character. Botany is a beautiful science, pity there aren't more people who study it though I have read that Botany as a subject is having a renaissance (my uncle did Botany at Chelsea College of Science and Technology as it was before being incorporated into Kings, but not at same time as Bellamy who I believe was a mature student).

I'm glad he reached 86.

It was his position on climate change that was controversial.

I am acquainted with a relative of Davis Bellamy. She told me that he had been seriously affected by Alzheimer's during recent years.

He made a statement denying climate change which, he claimed, made him unwelcome as a science presenter.
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

Not controversial, just wrong.

Oh yes, I do remember now. Agree with SH, not really controversial but wrong.
