Fashion, to some extent. There are fashions in illnesses, as in other things. ADHD is a real condition, and no doubt somewhat disabling for sufferers, but, as with some other conditions, I suspect that far more people think they've got it (or, more worryingly, think their kids have - Munchausen's by proxy) than actually have.
