What is it about the UK and major infrastructure projects - we seem chronically incapable of delivering in the way that other countries do. It is embarrassing. When we propose something we need to move rapidly to deciding whether or not to do it (not take decades) and then get on and do it. Like the rest of the world seems to do.
And high speed rail isn't a 19thC solution - it is absolutely a 21stC solution. We need more high speed (where appropriate) and high capacity (where appropriate) public transport solutions to get people and freight off our roads and out of our skies. HS2 is actually about both - increasing capacity on the network being just as important as the reduction in travel times.
So yes to HS2 - just an embarrassing shame it wasn't open years ago. As someone spending a lot of time in London I can easily see how transformative major infrastructure projects of this nature can be. The Elizabeth line is an absolute game changer.
