Surprised that this hasn't happened in football

In the news item yesterday they interviewed both Thompson but also Alix Popham - both are in their very early 40s (42 and 41 respectively). That is incredibly young to have been diagnosed with the early signs of dementia. I think most of the footballers who have similar problems had been diagnosed much later in life, and this may be one of the reasons for the difference between rugby and football.
Of course it may be that football players of a similar age just haven't been diagnosed.
