A view of pubs from across the ocean

As I grow into my older curmudgeon years, I am less fussy about choosing a pub, but much fussier about liking one.

Very amusing, but someone tell the author that it's 'Old PeculiEr'.

The only time we have ever been to a pub is if they serve meals, we have never been just for a drink. We don't drink alcohol at all now. My husband is on medication, which makes having a drink unwise. Not drinking alcohol doesn't bother me in the least.

Pubs have changed (or so it seems to me) since I first started going to them in the early 90's. Packed at lunchtime, a haze of smoke, tabs, lockins, soul.

Oh yes, I remember in my misspent youth, frequenting some real dives. Loved the Birmingham Barrel Organ in the late 80s. Quite well known as a concert venue for a while, with bands like Napalm Death and Dawn After Dark. Friday and Saturday nights were goth/alternative discos, bouncers on the door and absolutely packed with black leather, fishnets, big hair, and smoke.

Fun times.
