RIP Sir Terry, Thankyou for the laughter and sometimes the tears.

What was it he called his fans on his radio 2 show?

TOGs, Terry's Old Geezers or Terry's Old Gals.

Or, TYGs, Terry's young Geezers or Gals.

No question that he was a giant of British broadcasting for decades, radio and telly alike. Sad news  :(

A true great I shall miss enormously.

I have all the Janet and John stories....hilarious.

However as a career atheist not too sure Terry would appreciate appearing on the Prayers thread.

A wonderful and generous broadcaster.  He used to amaze me, as I would think he was naff, until I watched something (a programme last year on Ireland, for example), and he was very entertaining, amusing, and informative.   You felt you could listen all day to his anecdotes and droll insights.   What a bad January for deaths.

I really enjoyed that two-parter on Ireland too - a thoughtful programme, especially in the second half about Northern Ireland.

Quite honestly I'm getting distinctly annoyed about this cancer nonsense. I would go so far as to say I'm tantamount to cross.

Have to say that I always found him to be somewhat of a humbug - to use Dickens' phrase - but that may just have been me; I always found his sense of humour grated and appeared false.  Sad to see him leave us though, as I know so many people found him an encouragement

Sir Terry's greatest achievement was to make bad music enjoyable. Not just Eurovision, I can remember he ran a joke in 1975 , he regularly played the Guys n Dolls remake of the maudlin Dusty Springfield hit "You don't have to say you love me", encouraging viewers to write in giving their understanding of the lyrics of the chorus which were unintelligible because of the singers poor diction. RIP.

He was very good at appearing to be an avuncular old humbug when actually he was both witty and acerbic. No Wogan on Eurovision, no Graham Norton to follow.

Was interested to listen to one of the trustees of the Children in Need charity on BBC Breakfast this morning.  I have to say that I hadn't realised just how intimately involved in the very existence of the charity.  As such, I'd suggest he was a far better fundraiser than DJ/radio presenter.

Yes, he had a great ability to be quite sarcastic and affectionate at the same time.  Thus, talking of the TOGs, Terry's Old Geezers, and asked what defined them, he said 'they're fond of  their lawn-mowers'.

Also about golf, he complained that his golfing partners were now all occupied with Operation Yewtree.   Quite a touch of acid in Terry's apparent cosiness.

I listened regularly when having to run my late brother ( died in 2006) to sheffield every morning and collect him from work in the afternoon.
The radio was always on and we set off at 4:30 am every morning. I had to drive from Lymm to Sheffield.
I listened to Sarah Kennedy and then he took over later in the morning but I never forgot how much I enjoyed the chatter.
He was really easy to listen to and the tall tales...

I am quite caught up in all the tributes to the great man, he did touch millions of lives, I suspect that Steve Wrights show this afternoon will be a cracker.

He really did show his own style of comic contempt for it....didn't he?
