Films you never knew existed that take you by surprise
« on: May 23, 2016, 01:15:33 PM »
I was lounging on the sofa last night after an exremely strenuous day in the garden, trying to persuade myself to go to bed when a film I had never heard of started on BBC2(I think). It was called 'Care' and it covered the subject of sexual abuse in boys homes in the UK.

It was fictional but firmly rooted in that horrendous scandal that seemed to be oh so prevalent in our care system.

Anyway 'Care' was directed by Antonia Bird, produced by the BBC and with an unbelievably good performance from Stephen Mackintosh - it is well worth a watch, even if it is almost unbearably sad and depressing.

Has anyone else found any hidden gems in this completely random manner?

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. - God is Love.

I remember watching The Changeling with George C Scott which had somehow passed me by and being almost scared (note that's a compliment)

Did that have a rocking chair in it? Vague memory - if it was that one it was scarier than most. Although the scariest film I know is still the original of "The Haunting" (1963).
