This looks like an interesting game

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36791275

You use your mobile phone and visit places in RL to hunt your Pokemon.

Then you use the Camera on your phone to see them.

That idea could really take off, you could have dungeons and dragons and other games which could be fun.

You could also find a dead body, or have your phone stolen (perhaps even your car attacked by people trying to steal said phone).  Both these occurred in the US of A within the first 24 hours of the game's release.   ;)
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Yes they recommend you do it in company.

It's caught on near me.

I tried to give it a go out of curiosity but it hasn't been released yet, and people are downloading it by changing their country of origin and downloading from the USA.

I'll wait till it comes out, it sounds good.

It's odd how all the "Look at the Silly Things Pokemon Go Players Do" stories always have to mention the woman who found a dead body as though that was the fault of the game.

Has the following been mentioned: apparently some woman's Pokémon was stolen, and she dialled the emergency services in distress.....

I thought I'd give it a try. Was playing a bit earlier with my godson. It was fun. I like the idea, getting kids out walking, running, cycling looking for Pokemon.

My elder grandson (aged 14) and his pal are currently scouring Milngavie looking for this thing - they seem quite taken by it. :-\

I'm giving it a go  ;)

Just found my first Pokestop, yesterday.

 ::)

My hubby pointed out that something similar has been out for ages called geocaching.

Looks fun too, you search for treasure by app ( which is usually a hidden container) when you find it you sign a log and take something from it and replace it with something of equal value or more.

That sounds like fun too.

I thought this was amusing

Reporter caught playing Pokémon Go during official speech
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/36866522

A reporter gets pulled up for playing Pokemon  ;)

And this really did make me laugh

Quote

Sheikh Saleh al-Fozan said a fatwa (religious ruling) issued against an earlier Pokemon card game also applied to the new mixed-reality app.
The 16-year-old edict said the game contained "forbidden images" and violated an Islamic ban on gambling.
Pokemon Go, first released on 6 July, is proving popular in the Middle East despite not having officially launched there yet.
The game has proved so popular that Nintendo - which owns a stake in the Pokemon Company - has seen its shares double in value.
The game challenges players to visit real-world locations to catch cartoon monsters, which can be seen superimposed over views of the surrounding area shown on a smartphone screen.
Prohibited Pokemon
The fatwa was originally issued in 2001 by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Religious Scholars, to which Sheikh Saleh Al-Fozan belongs.
It states that the ability to mutate the creatures to give them more power amounts to blasphemy as it promotes the theory of evolution.
In addition, it objects to the use of a symbols and logos of "devious religions and organisations".
"The six-pointed star... is associated with Judaism, the logo and sign of the state of Israel, and the first symbol of the Masonry organisations in the world," it says.
"The game contains many forms of the cross which is the symbol of Christians."
It also highlights symbols it says are linked to Masonry and the Shinto religion.

It's looking more attractive by the minute  :)

I shall happily trundle off sometime today and give my blasphemous app another go, accompanied by one of my sons ( so I don't fall in the river, or get run over by a truck, because I'm looking at the phone instead of looking where I'm going, or event become the victim of a fatwah follower   :o )

 ;D ;D ;D

A shopping Mall in Harrow has blocked the Pokemon-Go signal to stop people walking into each other.

I have invented a game called Punchyman. If someone is walking down the street, not looking where they are going, and you punch them and they are playing Pokémon Go, you get 20 points. If they are not playing Pokémon Go, then you just get the warm feeling of having done something good for society.

And in either case you get an assault charge

if you turn up your sofa and shake, you will find 13pence in change, a fork, a boiled sweet, and maybe if you are lucky, a slightly crumpled SOH.

I used to be a geocacher. It was fun for a while but it's popularity has spoiled it (from my point of view). There are so many geocaches now, you can hardly walk for 10 minutes without tripping over one and the app makes it too easy (again from my point of view).

That's not possible without blocking the mobile phone signal, which is illegal.

You understand that a sign saying the signal is blocked doesn't mean the signal is blocked.

Incidentally, I tried googling to see if I could find the story on line

https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=harrow+shopping+mall+pokemon+go+signal&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&gfe_rd=cr&ei=lr-UV5L2NsqEygXMhay4Dw

but all I got was a load of stories saying Pokemon Go will save shopping malls.

I can't see the point but it's harmless. I can imagine children, of an age to be allowed out with friends of course, not little ones, finding it fun for a while.  Just a fad.

The stupid thing is that the game - the Pokenon-Go version - was never designed as a game for children. It was designed for players who had started in with the various anime series.
