Should the old blue passport make a come-back?
« on: August 02, 2016, 08:08:15 PM »
Once we leave the EU, the current red (burgundy?) EU passports will become obsolete as they expire.  Should the old blue be brought back to replace it, or should it be a different colour altogether?

Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

I don't know about anybody else but I couldn't give a stuff what colour it is.

My passport comes out of a drawer 2 or 3 times a year gets flashed at a person in Spain/Germany/any other country and when I return goes back in the drawer.

Are we really so vacuous that we are going to throw a tantrum about the colour of a small booklet that seldom sees daylight?

Oh and then here will be the cost of designing a new passport including new security measures in it - still maybe the fabled 350 million will cover it - or maybe they will just charge joe public a higher cost. Which outcome is your money on?

I think Trent has a good point.

Or perhaps we could become the first country to implant identity chips into our bodies.

If the government played its cards right it could get Dogs Trust or the Cats Protection League to do it free.

What a good idea. The national colours of France.

Oh don't, I can imagine that happening.  Big Brother and all that.

Ooh! We could have little uv moving picces. ( or even non uv ones)

A marching redcoat with a bearskin, or a bunch of corgies

Some of the coolest passport designs include ones with UV artwork like ones from Canada, the UK, the US, and China that expose "hidden" images under UV light. And then there's Finland's animated image of a moose running, which was released in 2012.

"

It's not just about the cover.

Think what moving pictures we could have.

A Bobby bending at the knees " allo, allo, allo! "

Something that represents the uk.

Wales could have sheep walking or daffodils swaying in the breeze, Scotland could have a bagpiper in a kilt blowing in the breeze or walking highland cattle.

It could be fun ;)

What a good idea. The national colours of France.

Even better as far as I am concerned, due to my heritage. :D

Rose, it might not be naff when you get your new passport but would be well naff long before it expires, trust me.  You can't change it like hair colour or make up.

Floo, the USA flag is red, white and blue too.

Flag of Guernsey with red and gold cross would be nice.
Wales flag has red dragon, very dramatic but reminds me of pub sign.

Personally I couldn't care less, but it would be nice if it displayed the EU flag - JUST TO ANNOY THE BREXITORS.

Hey Brownie

This dragon bright enough?

http://www.zazzle.co.uk/red_dragon_lgbt_pride-256409328065237633

It's lgbt pride but zazzle sells all sorts of different ones.

I expect one of the companies like photo box might even let you personalise what picture goes on it, you could have the children/grandchildren  ;)

Which makes it irrelevant somewhat to its original colour because if you don't like it you can always cover it up.

It's a bit like worrying about the colour of your phone and then buying a case for it.

Something I realised this time round  ::)

( so instead of opting for the black one with a pink case, this time my phone is " Rose " coloured with a black cover  ;D)

At least with a cover if it starts to look naff or you get fed up with it, you can change it.

Some of these are quite amusing

Not sure it's a good idea for places like Saudi Arabia with the bacon ones or the alcohol ones, they might think you were taking the piss.

There are some very britishy ones on here, one with red London buses and even the red coated bearskin soldier.

This one even has my Mary Poppins umbrella  :o. Fish n chips, Big Ben, ye olde pub sign

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/210036600/passport-cover-ye-olde-pub-passport?ref=shop_home_active_31

The original can come in any colour, no longer relevant.

Nice to have a different design inside though with lots of pages for the stamps

So many places no longer bother, I loved collecting the stamps from different places.

True, but I was more a David Cassidy fan  ;)

I was into Jackie and remember recording the charts by balancing a small microphone near the TV ( as it says on Amazon) or even better the top 40 on BBC radio on a Sunday night from 5-7
