Are you being served?
« on: August 30, 2016, 10:36:43 AM »
Have to say, I really liked the latest 2016 version of Are you being served. I think the performers caught the mood, the humour and the essence of the show and the previous cast.

I saw this too and I agree for the most part. Although I think the man who played the John Inman character went a bit too far over the top.

I don't quite understand the negative remarks about this that I have read on FB and the like. I mean they were paying homage to an old comedy series that was in essence 'Carry on in a Department Store'. It wasn't cutting edge even for its time. What were people expecting?

The can I take you to the Cinema Miss Brahms?/can I take you up the Regal? scene was IMO a fine innuendo.

I think they tried their best and as a one off it was okay but humour has moved on and most of it wasn't funny unless you knew the original references. Thought Porridge was better.

Do you think it's worn off?

The BBC would do much to rehabilitate itself if it gives us a series of this.

I did not see it. How is Mrs Slocombe's pussy?
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

Tiddles will be fine after Mrs Slocombe has used the Vosene.

It had to be hosed down but now it's looking as good as new.
She's  so happy that she is showing it off to anyone who has a passing interest.

Agree, entirely, Vlad. Really enjoyed this outing. Please, pleeeese BBC bring this back. Couldn't believe it was a one off!

Alas and alack AYBS is not coming back but there is a spin off series for the updated Porridge. Possibly more people identify with the character. There don't seem to be eccentrics and characters any more.....sigh.

'Jim' - Friday night dinners - is a tad eccentric!

We thought it was awful, much preferring the original cast!

Agreed, none of these modern re-runs of old comedies have been worth watching, imo.
