George and the Dragon Cafe
« on: September 30, 2016, 11:42:50 AM »
Reading this and some posts on here where people question whether modern life is that good for output mental health, makes me a little angry. We are pretty dreadful at handling mental health issues but there has never been a golden age. Let's stop pointing fingers on this and look for what can work.

Thanks for that NS.  It is one of the subjects close to my heart.  It must be really nice to have somewhere to go where you can do things you like, or not, and just be.  That is so important.

I do think the mentally ill are at the bottom of the pile when it comes to both NHS and private medicine (they dish out pills and little else), but treatment and attitude is so very much better than it was years ago.  There is also far more general awareness, including amongst those with mental health problems who are often better able to manage their lives than in the past.  So that is one reason I am glad to be around NOW and things can only get better as the song goes.
