The Power of the Daleks
« on: November 21, 2016, 11:39:27 AM »
In the 1970's, the BBC wiped many classic TV series from their tape archive. Amongst these were most of the William Hartnell and practically all of the Patrick Troughton Doctor Who stories. Fortunately, through diligent searching through amateur footage and foreign TV archives, many missing episodes have been found, and in recent years, stories have been issued on DVD with missing episodes animated to the original soundtrack. However over ninety episodes remain lost - but the soundtrack exists. This month, the BBC have released "Power of the Daleks", the first Troughton story - completely missing, but now animated. It's been on download from the BBC store for a fortnight (to mark its' fiftieth anniversary - November fifth 1966), and the DVD's have now started popping through the letterbox. Troughton was a superb actor, an outstanding Doctor, and 'Power'  is one of the holy grails of Whovians dreams.
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."
