I saw Rogue One before Christmas but I've only just heard the Wittertainment review and interview with Felicity Jones. One of her comments was quite interesting which is what provoked me to start this thread.
I really enjoyed the film for the most part (even though the most exciting bit of the experience was the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2). It did take a while to get going with too much chopping and changing between planets to set the scene. Anyway, once it got going, it was a rollicking good war film IMO with a pretty dark ending. This is where Felicity Jones' comment comes in, she said the film wasn't test screened. I'm left wondering, if it had been, they might have changed the ending and ended up with (what I would consider to be ) an inferior product.
The only major misstep was in the use of CGI. The commander of the Death Star is Grand Moff Tarkin. This is a character that appeared in a couple of scenes in Star Wars and was played by Peter Cushing. He has a bigger role in this film but instead of just casting a new person, they used motion capture and CGI'd Peter Cushing's face on. I honestly don't know why they bothered. All it did was make his scenes look really odd and jarring.
There was another piece of human face CGI which was even worse, but it only lasted about two seconds.
