I discovered this fascinating detective series earlier this year via Radio 4 Extra, and have managed to get hold of the first 6 series on CD (I think there are 11 series).
I found James McLevy in the British Library; he was failing apart at the time. ... In .. research I came across memntion of an actual Victorian detective who was one of the first practising polkicemen to write a diary of his experiences on the streets. His city was Edinburgh.
