Tommy Gemmell dead

Lovely man. This combined with the news of Billy McNeil's dementia seems particularly poignant in the run up to the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions triumph.
No matter which team you support, this is an iconic goal for Scottish football. In 1967 we had teams that could rule the world, now we are lucky if they could find a brewery. I am not usually given to flights of golden age nostalgia but I hope that the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions is as ecumenical as it can be. Celtic would not have been the team they were without the challenge of Rangers, and the quality of Hearts, Hibs Dunfermline, Clyde, Aberdeen, Dundee etc. 1967 was even great for Morton who won the Second Division before finishing 6th in the first in 68.
As those memories fade, the new ones seem dull and tasteless in comparison. Football is at its best a thing of poetry, but now we are left with a Tourette like series of discordant shouts. I know the folly of golden ages, as old people look back through their curling sepia memories, but that was a golden year.

I will now read posts very carefully and then using the two God given brains cells that I have reply as if I am talking to a two year old, yes that should suffice as a gentle reminder✝️✝️✝️❤️

I'm not really interested in senior football nowadays. (Junior football's different - Auchinleck Talbot rules!) Back in the day, though, I was a Celtic supporter, and men like Gemmel, Jinky Johnston, etc, were my heroes. A lion sleeps tonight.
