America does seem to like British actors these days. You see them all the time on American TV series and they are quite convincing.

As long as an actor can convey the character they have been cast to play, doesn't seem to me that it should matter where they come from. We have Americans playing Brits here and as long as they act well and can do the accent, who cares? I'd have thought several people would audition for a part and the best one selected.

Still, if Samuel L Jackson is saying foreign actors are taking work from American actors ......  why does that sound familiar?

Not sure he is saying that. Rather it is saying that on the case of race relations, you need someone from the US

I understand that but we did have racism - especially about interracial relationships up until recently - in UK; accept it was different inUSA but let's see how the actor performs.  He mAY be able to perfprm realistically.

Not sure that's relevant is it? To act in a film about an issue you don't have to have been born in a country where that issue occurs. That's not how acting works.

Yeah, we'd have to stop making films about Rome because none of experienced that culture. A Man for all Seasons? Do we have a cast that were around to experience the Reformation?

That is what I meant so I don't think Samuel L Jackson is right. There's a lot of talk at the moment in America about black American actors being unrepresented (if that's the right word), and my feeling is he was getting at that more than historic racial issues, though he might have a sort of gut reaction about those. Yet actors are always on about being stereotyped.

(Thandie Newman (English) played Condaleeca Rice, Idris Elba (English) was a very good Nelson Mandela. Acting skills are what matter.)
