It wasn't all about that bruise though.

There's clearly a lot more to it than we are reading on the BBC. Probably it involves a lot of alcohol.

I get the feeling it's a troubled place, Cromer, this incident aside. When I visited the church there it had a big board up about its outreach project to help tackle the drug use among the young people in the town. I guess it is like many such seaside places - not a lot to do and not many prospects outside of seasonal tourist stuff. IIRC correctly Norfolk has one of the highest ratios of registered drug addicts per capita in the country.

The alleged perps were from outside and according to the BBC they are now in Colchester, Peterborough and London and a rape has been linked to the disorder.

The local MP has demanded the Chief Constable explain why there were no arrests.

Which is why I said 'this incident aside' after linking to the article explaining where the troublemakers came from.

Such a shame. It's a lovely part of the world and lovely, friendly people.  :(

Not sure it would have prevented the assault on the poor girl but in the town trouble, that certainly seems a factor.

The report you linked suggests the police attended a number of incidents and resolved them. What more do you want?

Blimey didn't know that, only been to Blakeney(been to couple of nice places in Suffolk, Aldeburgh and Stowmarket).Must be on outskirts of big towns, people rave about the unspoilt villages, rural life and all that. There's plenty of drug use in pockets on the edge of my town too.

A bit off topic, but I reckon I would be depressed if I lived in Norfolk, it is so flat. We lived in Cambridgeshire for six years in the 80s, I can't say I liked that county much either, although it wasn't as uninteresting (imo) as Norfolk.

I live near both and although I find the flatness of the Fens unsettling Cambs is an interesting landscape. Norfolk on the other hand is stunning. The coast, the Broads and Breckland are fascinating and my heart breaks every time I have to leave it and come home.

Much like Lincolnshire Norfolk has BIG SKIES.

Lincolnshire is another county I like.

Philip Larkin moved to Hull because he said he liked being far away from city life and loved being on the edge of things - in effect the empty edge of England. So do I. The Norfolk edge, the Lincolnshire edge, parts of Essex ... I'd pack now if I could.

Yes I love Lincolnshire - not got there as much as I normally would this summer which is a shame. :(
