In what way was she 'forced' to apologise? If others objected to her statement and she felt that she wanted to retract it, then surely that's allowed in a democracy too?

No, the article makes it clear that it is something she might have done if she had a vote, which she doesn't.

When I first read the heading, I thought she was apologising for that awful wailing sound she makes they often refer to it as though it were music and then you hear people mumble something about country and western?

Trump is brash, he is there as president, I'd prefer to look back on his works when he's done with that job, he certainly is different.
