The prevalence of DVDs

There is a lot of TV and films (the two most recent examples I would have bought virtually were I,Claudius and Summer Stock) that still seems only available to own on DVD. This seems where we are now almost as obsoleted me as using a gram o phone. I'm surprised that the change is so slow.

The whole idea of loading something and not just being able to switch between the TV, to the tablet, to the hotel TV  etc seems so restrictive to me.

Yes, I don’t buy dvds now and probably miss out on stuff.

That said, my kids insisted on buying a hard copy of The Last Jedi. No idea why. Perhaps it’s hipster.

Which was easy to watch virtually - Not a clue why owning something physical works there.

Perhaps it’s the equivalent of walking around with cool vinyl.

Interestingly all three of my kids also prefer to buy Xbox games as discs rather than downloads. They get as excited by racks of traded-in discs at the local gaming shop as I do by rows of second hand books. Fortunately at least one of my children shares that passion too.

You can't trade-in or swap or buy used downloads. Maybe good reason to stay with the physical. I do for those reasons.

At some point, I would think a secondary market in downloads would become a reality. Currently for me, downloads are just way more convenient to use.

Which is one of the reasons I struggle with so much still only being available by DVD. It must restrict their market.
