Sex trafficking

What stands out for me is how many men were prepared to have sex with an injured woman covered in bruises, who clearly wasn't there through choice.

What stands out for is the apparent casual disregard of the Irish police and justice system to the situation of these women.

Hangover from the Magdalene laundries, perhaps?
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

That. too. The difference once she was in the North is astonishing.

And yet it obviously was common in the North too. I don't think there is enough information here to derive a generalisation about North/Republic differences.

Rhi you called me out for posting a thread about sex abuse the other day, yet you have posted one yourself?

Sex abuse is a terrible crime!

I meant the attitude of the authorities. Not the punters.

Because you were dwelling on a terrible news report about a child. This is a grown woman who has had the courage to tell her own story and wants it known and talked about in order to make a change. Do you see the difference?

True, the sentences were disgusting. There's an implication though that the police took het story more seriously in the North. Maybe that is an unwarranted leap I made there though.

I was also thinking of Harrowby Hall's comment. There is tragedy in Ireland built on small differences. I suspect in this case the woman was 'lucky' in the North to get in contact with someone motivated to do something. If we look at what happens in terms of this in the UK, then such abuse is generally badly dealt with.

I wondered whether she happened to get an officer who had received some training in sex trafficking, so then made the leap to that not being available in the South.

It may well not be, I don't know. But I do know that NI, and the Republic are not as different as some in either of them like to think.

No, well the image that we have at the moment is that it is the south that is forward thinking and the north that is behind the times.

No frankly I don't. The fact that poor child was sold to paedophiles on the dark web needs bringing to public attention. In the past child sexual abuse has been covered up, as in the case of that evil pervert Saville. >:(

What has been 'covered up' here?

I really don't get what your problem is, but let's leave it at.

LR is right to be horrified and shocked by the behaviour of the parents of the child in Germany. We all should be. But it was a single, uncommon, bizarre incident. It was discovered and the judicial process has dealt with it.

The story of the Romanian woman, however, has different implications. It describes major, ongoing criminal activity which is almost industrial in its scope. Not only does it involve forced sexual activity with actual bodily harm but also kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment - and probably money laundering as well. Her treatment and conviction by the Irish police and judiciary resulted in additional punishment for her (leaving her kidnappers untouched) as well as defamation in her home community and family in Romania. I suspect that the good fortune she experienced in Northern Ireland was the result of her being interviewed by a female police officer.

My guess - it can be no more than that - is that the national brainwashing of Ireland by the RCC with its acceptance of the concept the fallen woman has not yet been eradicated.

The victim  is now faced with the problems of rebuilding her life - including her relationships with her family. I wonder whether she will be able to overturn her wrongful Irish conviction?

My suspicion is that that the real significance of this story is that it represents only the tip of the iceberg. It is not a one-off ...

Indeed. It seems to be commonplace for men to be happy to pay for sex with a women whose body is bruised and bleeding.

The case of the boy being sold for sex on the internet is very sad...but is unlikely to be just a one off case. There was a case in Austria where a girl was kept confined as a sex slave for 24 years by her own father, in their own very basement. No one knew about it.

So.. how many such cases are going on that no one is aware of cannot be said. We all want to believe that it is rare. If only...!

About the trafficking of the girl, it is an international racket involving all countries.  Girls are transported across countries in wagons, in closed trucks, like cattle.

We can't be sure how many top politicians and police personnel are involved in these rackets.

I think you are right, sex trafficking is more common than we would like to believe. :o
