Because of her distinctive style and voice, which I always liked, I have found over the years that when her name is mentioned my ears pick it out immediately and I paid attention to what was being said.

With you on that. "Screaming" has to be one of the best.
"Frying Tonite!"
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

According to the BBC article, Carry on Screaming marked the start of the decline in her career.

This is a wonderful interview. Could there be men behind the decline in her career? Perish the thought.

Well KW was known for being remarkably prrickly, petulant and partisan so no real surprise there (doesn't excuse his behaviour though). The surprise,  to me at any rste, is her revelation about Norman Wisdom. I can now add to my description of  him as'terminally unfunny', one of lecherous bastard.

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. - God is Love.

My ex likes NW, which somehow is just a third reason to go 'ewww' at the sound of his name.

Norman Wisdom could be funny; it was the syrupy sentimentality I disliked - "Don't laugh at me 'cause I'm a fool", for example.
Popular in some unexpected places, apparently.
"That bloke over there, out of Ultravox, is really childish."
"Him? Midge Ure?"
"Yes, very."
