Eric Bogle, who wrote and sung the original, also called "No man's land' Is an Australian Scot. Born and raised in Glasgow with strong Ayrshire roots (his brother was an elder in the Kirk at Cumnock, his niece lives three hundred yards from me), he's an acclaimed folk singer.
