I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Brilliant!

Except for the fact that it made me feel vaguely airsick!

But I think it is amazing how far we have come from the box Brownie in my lifetime.

I know, but if you think about how you pronounce it the e and the i should be the other way round.

There are so many exceptions to that rule, 'weird' being one of them.

This rule is not appropriate in this case - "i" and "e" are part of different phonemes. The rule applies only when "i" and "e" are members of a single phoneme.

It also only applies when the sound they make is the ee in (e.g.) "bee". In fact, the full mnemonic is "i before e excepot after c when the word rhymes with bee". Even then, though, I think there are exceptions, so I think it's a mnemonic best igmnored. (See what I did there?)

Yes people say that a lot but they ignore the relative frequency with which the words that conform to the rule appear with respect to those that don't.

Morning Owl. What is weird is you & I being up at crack of dawn, I heard a 'weird' noise outside, dunno what but got up and had some milk, what's your excuse? I didn't find original post weird, seen things like that before. Can even get my house up on google earth if I want to & think it's intrusive (not for me but others seeing me putting out bins and hanging washing in dressing gown). I enjoyed the English lesson, forgotten a lot  of that which learned at school so good for English scholars to give a refresher course.

How weird, I think it is pronounced with the 'e' coming first.

So do I. If it was pronounced with the i first, it'd sound like "wired".

I agree too, it doesn't sound 'weird' to pronounce 'weird' as "weird".
We are seriously weird though, talking about weirdness before brek (I don't mean Brexit by the way, that gives a whole new meaning to 'weird'). Well I haven't had 'brekky' yet, don't know about you. I'm still half asleep.

Getting back to the topic, has anyone tried finding this group, or the woman on the mobile in the other close-up?
