Lighting

May I ask if anyone has any good ideas about lighting a dark corner of my lounge? It mustn't be a bright or glaring light, it has to light the corner with an even, strip-light strength and evenness. It can't be a standard lamp which could be knocked over or with a wire which could be tripped over!
I have a fixed table there with my CCTV on it and a black swivel chair. Just after I came out of hospital before Christmas, I went to sit on the chair,, and although I had my hand on the right arm, I missed the chair and fell on to the floor. No harm done, but I must have better ;lighting there. I have phoned the Rehab department, to ask the OT team what they think, but any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
I do have an angle-poise type strip light next to the CCTV over on the desk nearest the wall, but that is not enough.

We have our standard lamps behind each of our chairs in the lounge so they can't be tripped over.

thank you but that corner has my swivel chair which of course I move forwards and backwards and out into the room sometimes, so there is nothing for the lamp to stand behind!

Sounds like you need a wall mounted light maybe?

Hi Susan,

Have you thought about making your swivel chair easier to see either by using white or pale covers, or perhaps by having white or pale cushions on it? I think Plumbs do a range of covers for all sorts of chairs/sofas etc. This wouldn't solve the lighting in that area, I agree, but it might help you to see your chair more clearly.

Yes, I think it will have to be wall-mounted.
I tried draping a large white towel over the chair, but unfortunately, it sort of merges with the background of the light-coloured wall. The central light is not strong enough to light that corner even though it has three 60 watt candle-shaped bulbs in a transparent shade.

Here in the back half of the house - open kitchen/living area - I have two double strip lights and of course one of those would do very nicely in the dark corner, but would look somewhat incongruous in the lounge!

Never mind, I'll do that if it becomes necessary. Then, when I die, my sons can have it removed if it will make selling the house easier!

Consider replacing your centre light with a multi-derectional multi-spotlight perhaps?
 Where you can direct one more more of them at your dark corner.

thank you - that sounds like a good idea. I'll go into the Lighting Shop next week and see what is available.
