My favourite things
« on: February 03, 2019, 02:23:21 PM »
Raindrops on roses
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favourite things

I would certainly prefer raindrops on this Roses, rather than snowdrops. ;D

Apart from my family my favourite things are as follows.

Reading. I have loved books since I was able to read at the age of four. Many a time I would be scolded by my mother for reading rather than going out to play on a sunny day. (Mind you, if she had known some of the dangerous things I got up to when out playing, she would have preferred me to read. ;D) These days I have a Kindle, I read so quickly I would need a huge library in which to store my books.

My hobbies give a lot of pleasure, it is nice when people are kind enough to appreciate my output.

The Internet it is a great place for gathering information, although I should try to keep off the medical info pages as I suffer from health anxiety.

I enjoy chatting to people, I realise members of this forum might find it strange but people like engaging me in conversation.

I like public speaking of which I have done quite a lot over the years. I also found my TV appearances were interesting experiences.

I am always up for doing something totally crazy, even if it is very dangerous.  ::)

On TV, I watch the news and current affairs programmes. I like some of the older comedy programmes, 'Dad's Army', 'Hi di Hi', 'Keeping up appearances', and just lately, much to my husband's disgust, 'On the Buses'. I also like crime dramas. The only soaps I watch are 'Casualty' and 'Holby City'.

This is my favourite forum. :D

I wrote this in November 2014.
Quote
Nail bars and brow bars and pedicure parlours;
My bike's got a puncture, it's wet, and I'm car-less;
January and the weather it brings;
These are a few of my least favourite things.
When the sun shines, when the bird sings,
When I'm feeling great,
I don't spare a thought for my least favourite things,
For they are the things I hate.

Bad grammar, bad spelling, bad punctuation;
Morrissey, Katie Price, and Kim Kardashian;
Packages tied, very badly, with strings;
These are a few of my least favourite things.
When the beer's cool, when the food's hot,
When I'm feeling happy,
I think of my least favourite things not a jot,
For they are completely crappy.
As for things I like:
Bike rides.
Real ale and real cider in real pubs.
Reading, esp. poetry, fiction, popular science, and left-wing politics.
Pornography.
Proper hymns (NOT happy-crappy "worship songs").
Collecting mechanical clocks and books.
Morecambe and Wise, Laurel and Hardy, Frankie Howerd, Ken Dodd, Tommy Cooper, Charlie Drake, and many others.
Lots of other stuff as well.
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Let me guess Ian Dury

Reading though I read less now than I used to.
Seaside and countryside - not to live but to visit and stay for a while. Living in Bromley it doesn't take long to get to somewhere nice.
Cheese.
Tomatoes.
All my extended family, there are a lot of us.
Friends.
Animals. I have no pets now but do love all animals and I like riding though only do that on holiday now.
Work, I find it very satisfying and rewarding and hope I make a difference.
Riding my bike.
LR I didn't know Hi de Hi was back on TV! I used to like that.
Some television programmes especially a good drama series. Like LR I enjoy Casualty and Holby (just started) but I do miss them sometimes. The only soap I watch regularly is Corrie.
Music of all types.
Galleries and museums.
Eating out.

Taking family and friends as read - then Fender guitars and Suzuki motorcycles loom large.

I must add:
Sleeping
Green smoothies (I adore them)

You can get 'Hi de Hi' on Amazon Prime. It was on UKTV Play until recently but 'currently unavailable'.
