Tutankhamun returns.
« on: November 01, 2019, 03:18:41 PM »
I'll be getting my passport ready....hitting the trail next week. This will be the last time anything from KV 62 is shown outside Egypt, as many of the objects are now getting too fragile to move. Many of the objects on display on this particular travelling exhibition have never left Egypt before, and, on their return, will be displayed in the new GEM - the 'Grand Egyptian Museum' which is on the Giza Plateau, and which is supposed to be fully up and running sometime next year......I said 'supposed'; this is Egypt - don't hold your breath. https://www.saatchigallery.com/art/tutankhamun.php
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Go for it.
One look at the gilded throne will be enough to have you in rhapsody....and take ear plugs in case you come across Egyptologists arguing over the original owners....we can get pretty heated about that...:D
Seriously, some of the statues - the one with the king as Horus on a boat (though probably not made for...oh, shut it, Jim...) has never been seen here before, and is worth a look any day.
