They must be needed for the glass ceiling :)
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

I grew up in a South Yorkshire mining village and we had a Japanese female butcher at the end of our street
Mother used to send me there on a Monday morning to get a sheeps head ,
But make sure she leaves the eyes in , she'd say , it's got to see us through the week .

I don't remember if she wore glasses though !

I've met lots of Japanese people over the years and rarely have I ever seen one without glasses.

*This:- Several local news outlets said some companies had "banned" eyewear for female employees for various reasons.*

That makes me wonder how widespread the policy is and if it is actually a policy or just a rumour;  is it even legal to 'ban' glasses.  Why just bespectacled women?

This seems like a short-sighted policy.

There's certainly some clarity needed.

A quick look at the appended article and it is clear that its subject is not about "glasses" per se but about dress codes in general: employers want employees who meet the public to look "attractive". It is not materially different from insisting that women do not wear trousers at work or that men wear ties.

It is just a further example that "smartness" is a sign of institutional servility.
