And now Clive James dead...
« on: November 27, 2019, 04:14:36 PM »
Bit of a death day. James's TV columns were quite brilliant.

Clive James would've just loved that!
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Ah they got Clive James right but said the Bee Gees stormed off his show - which was Anderson.

James was an interesting broadcaster.

Hadn't seen this review before. There is an irony that Dan Brown caused so much good writing about himself.

A sad loss, though not unexpected: he's had terminal leukaemia for some time, and wrote about it in a column he had in the Guardian. I loved his TV criticism, and he was also a very gifted poet: I bought his ollected poems a few years ago. He should be better-known as a poet.

I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Brilliant, but it might have been helpful to be told which of Brown's books it was a review of!

I noticed that too. Anyway, it's Inferno.

I haven't read it, I just Googled "Dan Brown book Dante"
