Sometimes they get it remarkably right and very wrong at the same time. In 1945, Arthur C. Clarke published this article, predicting communication satellites about 20 years before they became a reality - but, writing in the pre-transistor age, he imagined them as permanently-manned space stations, with crews who would be necessafry for repair and maintenance.
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.
