WTAF?

WTAF?

The United States is, in many ways pretty barbaric. We look at all their money and technology and we assume it is a modern democracy when really it isn't.

The USA - constitutionally - is a single nation. Operationally it is a collection of cultures.

Our perception of the USA tends to be influenced by the media representations we see - usually of the oceanic states. On the Atlantic side we see the centre of federal government, a world city and some of he most respected universities in the world. On the Pacific side there is the most important entertainment production area in the world and cities like Seattle. In between there are important manufacturing and commercial cities.

But there are also places which, culturally, belong to the third world.

The attitudes in the said 'third world' areas are still those of pre-Civil War Southern states.

Yes I think in many respects the 17th and 18th century is just yesterday for them.

In the UK we have so much history we don't care about it until we are reminded how much we are still in hock to it. Vis the strange revival of rule by the Harristocracy and bastard feudalism
