Perhaps this helps to explain the relatively recent surge in accusations of a general bias in the BBC’s reporting and in its programmes.

Yes - I'm sick of the bias on news reporting. Of course, when you look at the history of the reporters it's hardly surprising.

Nick RObinson: "Robinson was a founder-member of Macclesfield Young Conservatives (YC) and rose through the ranks, becoming Cheshire YC Chairman from 1982 to 1984 and became a key activist in the moderate-controlled North West Area organisation. Philip Pedley, as National YC Chairman, co-opted Robinson onto the YC National Advisory Committee in 1983 and appointed him National Campaign Director of Youth for Multilateral Disarmament. Robinson was elected National Vice Chairman from 1985 to 1987 and succeeded a fellow moderate, Richard Fuller, when Robinson was elected Chairman of the National Young Conservatives on the moderate ticket against strong right-wing opposition (1987–1988).[7]

At university he was President of the Oxford University Conservative Association in 1985.[8][9]"

One wonders if the aim is to turn the BBC into the CBC.

I've heard something like that, I'd want to see more about that and see or hear what that would involve.

Some of us Scots already think of it as the EBC anyway, so that it turns into the PR division of the Tory party would be no great surprise.

Right on both counts enki,  I think it also has a lot to do with the “BBC Bubble”. A large proportion of the staff are of a similar background. Socially, educationally and politically, there is a pervading conventional wisdom that generates a consensus of opinion and a distinct lack of rational criticism. This is summarised by, “Everyone here (i.e. in the Bubble) agrees with me, so I must be right”. Perhaps this helps to explain the relatively recent surge in accusations of a general bias in the BBC’s reporting and in its programmes.

I aren't talking about bias at all. It doesn't seem to matter which politician is interviewed, the same aggressive approach seems to be followed.

I'd agree there is a more aggressive approach evident, but I do wonder if the politicians are, at least, partly responsible. The number of times I have felt frustrated and shouted at the screen "Just answer the bloody question" are many, and I am sure the frustration I feel is probably felt by the interviewers, which in turn leads to a higher level of aggression in an effort to try to extract some kind of meaningful answer.

I'll believe almost everything I hear about them dating back to pre  2007 with the select committee meetings pre one of their charter reviews, including EBC as you frame your term.

I do know where you're coming from but that is only matched, in my case, by me(or my wife) shouting at the screen, " Let him/her answer the bloody question". At least we have the theoretical power to get rid of politicians, not so the interviewers, it seems.

Yes I agree and it seems to rub off on to the general public mood.

(Meant as an example of woke only).
Woke in action, I don't agree with you and because you've decided to oppose me you must be a very bad more than likely an immoral and unethical person as well!

The interviews should be impartial, I wish they were.

Yes I notice that as well, but usually on Good Morning Britain when Piers Morgan is in charge. It is nigh on impossible for anyone to get a word in when he's in full fllow!

I find the interviewers on BBC Breakfast more willing to hear answers, if they are given. Newsnight depends very much on who is asking the questions. Emily Maitliss who came in for some criticism awhile ago I find to be one of the more effective interviewers.

Is that "woke" in action?

Genuine question, as "woke" appears to be a very flexible term and can be used as a definer of a person, depending on your viewpoint, as either good or bad. I Personally find it useless as a defining term in any debate.

Woke does seem to be very much like that description to me and of course subjective.
