The Blessing
« on: October 18, 2020, 01:05:34 PM »
Since it was originally performed in March this year, "The Blessing" has united Christian communities around the world to call upon God's blessing for all our nations - each performance brings their own unique ethnic flavour to this inspired rendition of God's word

I'd arranged for some tech geek to play the UK version as my extroit after having bored the congregation into sleep whilst taking pulpiy supply a fortnight ago. The only advantage of this 'not singing' lark is that the sadist int the pulpit can inflict bits of music which the congregation may not know, and there's not a lot they can do about it. I put some Petra Christian rock through the speaker system after worship.....hey, who needs a fire drill? Got'em out in jig time so we could get down to sanitsing drill.....

If there's one thing I hate, it's people standing around with their hands raised and their eyes closed at charismatic bless-ups, trying to look pious. There's a large element of subtle competitiveness and exhibitionism about it. Not for me.

This isn't an oxymoron, but I'm a Presbyterian Charismatic....but there's a time and a place to exercise thiose arm muscles, and if it disturbs other worshippers, that's not the time or the place.

I sympathise with those who feel uncomfortable with the charismatic style of worship because I was one of them - until I had the "born again" experience when attending Life in the Spirit seminars.  I still have personal reluctance to raise my hands in worship because I can't do it naturally - but I have full admiration for those who can embrace it naturally, and I often feel moved to tears by such acts of uninhibited faith (so does my wife).  God moves in many different ways through people, but I know that some people can go over the top by indulging in personal exhibitionism - however I feel I can discern those who are genuinely moved by God's grace.

I don't "feel uncomfortable with the charismatic style of worship" (and note that you are subtly trying to shift the fault on to me): I was a charismatic for 15 years from the late 70s to the early 90s, when I finally came to my senses, and was a hand-raiser myself. I also talked gobbledegook ("praying in tongues") with the best of them. It was when I finally realised that, though healings were regularly prayed for and claimed, I never saw one single solitary incontrovertible physical healing, that I left. I am now a very liberal Anglican Christian.

Despite having zero coverage in main news media, the blessing song has united millions of Christians throughout the world in sharing a wonderful prayer of hope during these troubled times.

Amen. HalleluYah! All praise to the Most High!

Thank you, Alan. Yes, most uplifting after two years of folks living in fear and despondency.
May God Bless them, protect them and give them strength and courage at all times.

I too think it is 'nice', the words are what mot Christians believe so not original but pleasant. I started watching but then listened without picture If it helps someone, good (as long as they don't become overly holy & start trying to convert everyone). I'm not a 'fancy' worshipper but there's room for all.
