But anyone who has lived with a cat knows that cats are the only non-human species that can argue with humans ... and win the argument.

Let animals be animals. Don't try to turn them into pretend children.
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.
