Is anyone watching this BBC drama serial? It's jolly good. It stars Hugh Laurie as Peter Laurence, a right-wing Tory cabinet minister and unprincipled, corrupt rat-bag (that last phrase is tautological), who has a wife, a mistress, two tiresome acknowledged daughters, one at University and one working for an environmental agency, and, as we discover in episode three, an older (30ish) unacknowledged, mixed-race daughter, the result of an earlier affair, who's in prison for fraud. She is much more likeable, imo, than the other two. He is angling for the PM's job, but his chickens are coming home to roost. The PM is a Thatcheresque woman called Dawn, and there's no sign of a pandemic, so it's essentially an alternative present. He's supposed to be the MP for Hastings. I wonder what Sally-Ann Hart, the actual MP for Hastings and Rye, thinks about that.
Anyway, all episodes are on iplayer, which is where I'm watching it, and are recommended.
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Have enjoyed it so far, though very reminiscent of House of Cards and other political dramas.
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

I found rather old fashioned, and less than the sum of its parts. Given the current political realities, the fiction seemed incredibly mild.

So, how different is the method of acquisistion of the key to10 Downing Street by Peter Laurence, from someone who sought to impress people of his intelligence by being a bufoon on Have I Got News For You?
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?
