Very interesting. I think it was in 'A History of the British Isles  in 100 Places' where Neil Oliver talks about the fact that the 'dark ages' were not as grim as has been supposed.

I'd rather they didn't call it "The Dark Ages": it was anything but in many ways. How about "early Middle Ages"?

"Dark" refers to the written records going dark i.e. we don't have many, but I take the point.

I think we should call them the "Taffy ages" since the culture now restricted to Wales ruled the whole of what is now England.
