Barbra Windsor has gone to the great pub in the sky.

What a character. Never thought she was the greatest actress, but that wasn't really the point. There was something about her that made you smile even when she was performing in comedy that wasn't the best in the world, or indeed even in the UK.

Liked Larry Lamb's anecdote this morning:

When comparing her height to his she said something like:

Cor ain't you tall. Never mind darling we're all the same height lying down.

Will be missed by me more than I would have thought.

Yes, she was almost indefinably iconic and seems knitted into the culture.

I see that Babs, the dramatised documentary about Barbara Windsor is on BBC1 tonight. I saw it before but will watch it again, maybe over the weekend. There is also a Carry On film on Drama later.

Dementia is a horrible disease but she did really well for quite a while before she had to have residential care, more than most.

It's good to know her trial is now over. She'll certainly be remembered.

Her whole story including Ronnie Knight and the Krays, the work with Joan Littlewood and Lionel Bart, the Marie Lloyd impersonations is fascinating.

She was, as the saying used to go, no better than she ought to be, with her association with pretty dodgy characters, but that was part of the charm. She'll certainly be missed. Ooh, matron!
