Pinched this from the book of Face.

Name 5 famous people you have met or been within a few feet of, but make one of them a lie. See if other posters can guess which is the porkie.

Be prepared to explain later!

No, not Paxo - saw him in Charing Cross Road a few years ago.
Dolly Parton? She seems least likely of the remaining four.

Nope, in my gay activist days a group of us stopped him on the way into a Labour Party regional meeting to make our views known.

Robert Redford seems the most unlikely to me (although having said that they all seem unlikely to me!)

And again, no. Another that I was at the next table to in a restaurant, in this case The Gotham Bar and Grill in New York, same trip as the Ivana one.

Again no. I met her after a play in Nottingham at the Theatre Royal. That's a brilliant story.  Ok, as you are such a big Alison Moyet fan that I am going to say that it is her you haven't been close to.  If it's Jimmy Somerville, then well done, but he is actually someone I met.

You are correct. Fan of Alison's though I am I've never got closer than the fifth row of a concert hall.

Jimmy I met in Germany when he was performing at Cologne's gay pride sometime in the 90's. I'd been dancing like a lunatic and was taking a breather by the side of the stage and he was next to me. I said something really inane like "I love your music" - which isn't a lie given what a great song "Smalltown Boy" is, and he leaned over and said thanks and kissed me on the cheek. Then he was up on the stage singing.

It is George Best. I was meant to go to a dinner talk from him where I was going to be on the top table with him but couldn't make it due to a family emergency.


Boris, I met a few times when we both debated at uni, not the same one. He was a racist sexist prick.

So I think you've met Sir John, Laurie Lee, Enoch - I'm basing this on the perception I have of you from your posting and odd things you've mentioned.

Flowers is  maybe to obscure a figure to be thought up of as a dud.

Theone I didnot meet was Enoch Powell. In the days of my youth (to my shame) I was a member of the Young Conservatives. It was a good way of having a social life if you had moved away from home. Powell was supposed to come and talk to us - but he was ill and his wife came instead. Adrian Flowers was a neighbour in France. And for a few years, I lived in Windsor.
