The original meaning. Nowadays, it means "abstaining from sex".

Its meaning remains what it has always been - "unmarried".

It is used quite generally - but erroneously - to refer to "chastity", which is abstention from sexual activity.
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?
