When I've said or written it elsewhere, there's always someone who replies with something similar. As a 10 year old I like Seven Seas of Rye and Killer Queen, but it's always felt more show than anything deeper.
I get the appeal. Singalong anthems, overblown productions. I felt that there was never any hint of subtlety, at least not until just before Mercury died when the songs became more sombre and reflective, and therefore to me, much more interesting.
One other reason, dating back to my teenage years, was that I was a huge fan of 10cc and the music press at the time pitted them against one another, so I hated Queen on principle.
