Officer who shot Chris Kaba did nothing wrong - colleague

Seems a fair enough decision to me.

Officers on trial over shooting suspects to get anonymity.

Not a big fan of anonymity but makes some sense here.

I'm no fan of trigger-happy police officers, but considering what we now know about Kaba, I won't be shedding any tears. K's family have been complaining about a failure in policing: I think they should be looking closer to home about failures in his upbringing. I wonder how many of those who turned out to protest now feel a right bunch of Charlies, having now realised that Kaba was a deeply unpleasant gang leader who came within a whisker of being a violent murderer, with a known criminal past.

I fear that many will continue with attitude ACAB - all cops are bastards - as nuance is no longer available

It's interesting that none of this was allowed to come out at trial. I would have thought that knowledge of Kaba's past would have been fundamental to the officer's decision to open fire.

From the information I've seen I don't think the police knew who was in the car and driving at the time when they opened fire.

That would explain it.

They knew that the car had been used as a getaway car in a shooting on the previous evening. But they didn't know who was driving it at the time they opened fire and the car wasn't registered to Kaba, nor had it been stolen.
