The agnostic atheist is of course taking a punt and, thence having a horse in the race is prone to biases just like everybody else.

In his case he could not let God in because he wanted the independent life. Augustine on reflection categorises his career flitting arounddifferent philosophies and indeed religions as evasion of God.
