I understand that, but just occasionally the show has left me laughing uncontrollably.

They've gone for just one character per show - but there are quite a few where more than one character could have been included. (e.g. most of Dad's Army). I also think Uncle Bryn deserves a mention even if Nessa is the most obvious (but least subtle) comedy character from G&S.
