Understanding Myth ( Mythos ) Or Why we love a good story.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen of the Forum,

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/what-is-a-human/202411/why-we-tell-stories

The one Homo that I am sure we all are is Homo Narrans ( unsure about Homo Sapiens, Homo Intellectus, Homo Religiousus ) the one purpose of Myth ( in my opinion ) is not to tell you what to think but rather to make you think, to take you out of yourself.

A prime example for me is Achilles and his dodgy heel, do you have a dodgy heel. Are you honest with yourself, have a long hard look at your own failings.

Socrates. The unexamined life is not worth living

I will now read posts very carefully and then using the two God given brains cells that I have reply as if I am talking to a two year old, yes that should suffice as a gentle reminder✝️✝️✝️❤️

And yet we tell stories to create conflict. I think the article is somewhat Pollyannaesque about our story telling. There are many stories being told to justify killing of innocents just now.

As for the Socrates quote, thar one's always annoyed me. It's a bit elitist, and reads to me more of 'Look, how much better I am doing my examining than those dolts with the worthless lives'

Dear Angry,

The purpose of the thread is to examine Myth, as for you having a pop at old Socrates, then the person examining should have a wee re examine.

Not angry, more sad. There are children being killed daily because of our story telling abilities. Being able ti see both sides, as is covered in the first sentence of A Tale of Two Cities by one of the great storytellers,  is important when we look at attributes.

And Socrates may have been excellent as ajudged by Bill and Ted, but that doesn't stop him, or indeed you or me, from being capable of spouting heinous bollocks.

Dear Sane,

And yes, when idiots ask me who is right, who is wrong, I am totally with you, fuck right killing and maiming children is always wrong :-[

As for heinous bollocks, my heinous bollocks are bigger than your heinous bollocks.

Off out now, tell Gordon I will answer all his questions when I return❤️
