I think it is a good move on her part.

I'm surprised she hasn't also appointed Andrea Leadsom and Michael Gove in other roles.
( just noticed Liam Fox is Secretary of State for International Trade )

Boris as foreign secretary is a stroke of genius, IMO

Are you mad? Boris will have to spend 2 years apologising to all the people he's insulted. The man is a dangerous baffoon. And you think it's a stroke of genius.

I suppose it is if you are deliberately trying to  make the UK a laughing stock. In which case Theresa's doing a grand job.

As for Theresa positioning herself as a the ordinary people's champion - let me see how many Conservative PM's I can remember doing that. Thatcher (tick), Major (Tick), Cameron (tick). Oh Plus ça change....

The police say that this always happens when some national or international event triggers these type of feelings. They'll calm down soon.
The damage is already done. A lot of people have been hurt by this and a lot of foreigners' perception of this country is that England is full of nasty small minded racists.

Quote
Nothing is wrong (or right) about the economy etc. It (the world economy etc.) was and is pretty fucked up - you can't blame the snow flake that starts the avalanche; the mass of snow was unstable before it landed.
Our economy was not fucked up. In fact it was doing quite well until you came along with your stupid racist vote.

Quote
Oh the wee wheengeing Scoots. They are like little children running around screaming and shouting and achieving nothing. When they see what independence means they'll sit down and be quiet.
I expect them to achieve independence in ten years. Yu have done this. You have destroyed this country.

The only real coward was Cameron who did nothing in planning ahead for a Brexit vote and then ran off once the vote came in.
And the euro-leech Farage and Johnson who also both ran away.

Actually, I think, regardless of his stupidity in calling the referendum at all, Cameron has behaved pretty well post-Brexit vote. He didn't run away, he waited until a new PM had been chosen before leaving office.

Why?  He has got to be part of the Brexit process if it is to have any validity.  She can always ditch him once the process is over!!
It's something like appointing Tony Blair as Middle East Peace Envoy.

Secretary of State for Exiting the EU.  What a mouthful!!

Will David Davies be responsible solely for the process of extricating the UK from the EU, or will his remit be wider and include looking at ways to ensure that the important aspects oif EU legislation that we have signed up to - for instance legislation on the environment, on equality, on diversity, on human rights, ... are properly enshrined in the UK's legislative code?
They already are. All EU legislation is made real only by enacting it in member states' parliaments. Leaving the EU does not mean all EU law is automatically repealed.

I'm a bit out of it here in Brittany. No TV and only a crackly Radio4 LW. I got the headlines but I was wondering what became of the loathsome Gove?

Another few years of mispronouncing his name.

He could be sent to a far off land and disappear in the mountains - or the jungle - or the river.  Just think of the films that could be made about it.

So we have de Pefeffel and Mr Davis heading up the Brexit negotiating, yes? both Brexiteers, so it is simply a case, you broke it, you can fix it, is that right?

Justine Greening the new Secretary of State for Education is the first openly gay Cabinet Minister, it is good to have a gay person in such an important role, imo.

I've heard of him and if he's the right person for the job, all well and good.  I don't know him that well so we'll see.  His gayness is neither here nor there.

(Angela Eagle is gay if anyone doesn't know.  I don't think she is the right person for the job she is up for, nothing to do with her gayness.)

If these people don't work out, she'll have a reshuffle.
Still convinced she offered Boris the job on condition that he backed her in the leadership race which is why he 'withdrew' so easily - and happily.

Yes, it reminded me of Thatcher's immortal quotation from St Francis - where there is discord, may there be harmony.  Well, she could have been a stand-up with lines like that.

Chris Smith was a minister in the Labour years under Blair.

Brownie, he's not up for a post now. That is Justine Greening.

Floo you are quite wrong - if I was Education Secretary I'd have all the children being put up chimneys and sent down mines. and I'd confiscate their smartphones and make them play out in the middle of a busy street. Oh and I'd bring back sweets with enormous quatities of unhealthy chemicals in them so that they keep their parents up all night. My sexuality wouldn't make me a good Education Secretary - I fully accept that, indeed I embrace it!  :P

Dear Floo,

On second thoughts, yes you are right, having the ability to match curtains and cushions is very useful in Education.

Who me!! stereotyping, never!

The "good" thing is that at least now we have a functioning government - who knows, we might even get a functioning opposition sometime soon?
