"Abortions carried out when the foetus is malformed, which accounted for 98% of legal terminations last year, have now been outlawed."That particularly shocked me.I don't think the ban will last, frankly. Far too much opposition.
Let's hope the delay becomes permanenthttps://amp.dw.com/en/poland-delays-abortion-block-amid-nationwide-protests/a-55491323?__twitter_impression=true
It would appear nothttps://amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/27/poland-to-implement-near-total-ban-on-abortion-imminently?__twitter_impression=true
What now? I feel very unhappy about the probable Government response to another women's protest like the last one. Violent in all probabilty!
It's definitely a worry but it would look awful and Poland isn't a dictatorship, and is in the EU which should make it harder - perhaps a forlorn hope but still a hope.
A pseudo-democracy run, effectively, by the Roman Catholic church!Owlswing)O(
It really isn't. It's just as with many countries swung to the right which in its case has a lot of Catholic older voters. Back in the 90s, Poland was making huge strides in being progressive. As with many cases of right-wing success, a lot of it is achieved by unscrupulous politicians donning the mantle of whatever religion works in that country - e.g Trump.
I should have guessed on this Forum the fault would be with right-wing politicians. Absolutely no surprise there whatsoever!Owlswing)O(
